Wag the Dog Marketing on basic steps of on site organic search engine optimization.

Keyword Research: Supply and demand keyword research is a must in order to determine what phrases, relating to your products and services, you’re going to market via search engine optimization. Opposed to popular opinion, you do not want the broadest phrases related to your offerings.

You must understand how much competition you have in relation to such phrases. You’re likely to succeed by striving for first page search ranking for phrases that are less sought after from your competition, yet are still searched for and relate to your offerings. Remember it’s much better to have 1% of 1,000 then it is to have 0% of 10,000,000!

Good Keyword Content: Write good content about the phrases you’ve selected. Be sure to write only one article per phrase. Make sure to sprinkle your chosen keyword into the headline tags, and throughout your article using it more in the beginning and ending of the article. Think of an hour glass.

Use related keywords throughout the middle of your article to gain a wider range of first page search rankings for more phrases.

Effective Meta Tags: Search engines don’t put as much importance on good meta tags as do humans. When you find sites that are first page Google website ranking, the most important aspect is getting the click, and therefore it’s how the description appears.

You wouldn’t pay to run poor newspaper copy, so write good, catchy descriptions on all of your pages. Another trick is to capitalize the first letters of all the important words in the description. This catches the eye and gets the click.

Internal Linking: Link your home page to your most important content pages, and then those pages to the less important pages. Make sure all pages use their main keyword as anchor text in a link pointing elsewhere. Be sure to link all pages back to your home page.

Although these are basic search engine optimization tips, they are all absolutely necessary for local SEO optimization. Get the basics done first then the rest of your first page search ranking work will be easier.

Google Adsense Secret

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

After using Adsense for a bit you begin to ask yourself what is the big Google Adsence secret. There are a few things that you can do to improve earnings. Experimenting is the key, what may work well on one site may not on another.

The first thing you need to realize is that there is no magic one size fits all solution. You will just need to test different things to see what gives a good response and what doesn’t. The first thing that you should try is different ad positions.

Try an ad in a certain placement for a week and at the end of that time write down your results, you may want to come back to that ad placement later.

There are a few positions that seem to offer the best results. Google knows this and they publish a “heat map” pinpointing what they believe are the best placement for ads. If you go into a Google search engine and type in “Adsense heat map” it will be easy to find.

The top performing ad block is usually directly above the content. This is by no means a rule of thumb and every location should be tracked every week to see how they are performing.

News site ad placement seems to do better at the bottom immediately following the content. As a visitor finishes reading they are looking for something else to do and an Adsense ad can be that something.

Placing ads on the left side of the page seems to do well, this is because text is usually written from left to right and top to bottom. Each time a person finishes a sentence their eyes return to the left position, which means they have a chance to identify your ads.

It is best to have ads that blend in with your site content. If your visitor experiences any kind of eye discomfort they will simply click away. If you choose to promote Adsense a simple website layout is usually the best.

After using Google Adsense for a bit you will start to look a ways to optimize ad placement.

The Need-To-Knows Of Internet Blogging

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Almost everyone has heard of the infamous blogging trend that arose a few years ago, but only a select group knows the benefits and potential profits that it can bring. Most blogs are created to serve as personal diaries that can be read by their friends, or by the public in general. People from every nation take part in their own digital journal, using it as a record for links, pictures, events, and people.

There are varying forms of internet blogging, but predominately there are three most commonly practiced types. Some bloggers use video as their choice of media and create Vlogs, video blogs, while still others use audio only and create Audioblogs. While these two formats in blogging are common, none are more prevalent than the text based regular blog.

The typical blogger will post frequent entries about his or her happenings of their day to day basis. While in most cases blogs are used as a way to keep in touch with friends and families, other writers will add their deepest darkest secrets that they do not wish to see the light of day. The bloggers that are widely known throughout the internet are eligible to win awards and accolades from their viewers if their audience enjoys their work.

Not only are blogs the houses for personal posts and entries, they are also the locations for groups of people to post in unison about a particular topic or theme. Many online and local businesses post information about their various products with customer reviews to better entice new clients. Many blogs are dedicated solely to the idea that groups of users can come together and create an entire story by making small individual posts that are weaved together.

To build a blog from scratch there are a couple of things that should be taken into consideration to make things easier. First off, if the blog intended to be a public site than only design and aesthetic aspects should be emphasized, if it is for private use, than the blogger should make sure that no one else has access to the site. Second to consider is what the overall theme and tone that the blogger wants to convey in his or her virtual journal, with these in mind blogging becomes simpler.

In case anyone desires their blog to be visit by all on the internet; they must make their site easier to find through online search engines. Some of the best ways to improve traffic are the simplest, for example the inclusion of a site map greatly improves the entire site. Instead of using pictures and photos made by others, use some personal ones to increase the site’s uniqueness.

With the rise in popularity of blogs it was only a matter of time before people started rating and judging said blogs to determine which one is the best in its field. The Bloggies and the Best of the Blogs, or BOBs, are the most prestigious of the awards that a blog can receive, however there are several smaller awards floating out in the web. Those who judge these sites are both professional critics and common readers alike depending on what the award being given is.

At some point in their lives, everyone has wished to keep a journal or diary of their imaginative ideas, daring dreams, and personal ponderings. This drive to record has only been strengthened with modern technology. Blogging as an international culture shows no signs of slowing and would appear to have a great and long future ahead of it.

Email Marketing: Expand Your Business

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Internet network marketing has become quite popular in the past few years for conducting business on the internet. It can be a very successful or a complete bust depending on what type of approach you take. One of the popular marketing methods is email marketing, but if done wrong, it will result in a definite bust. Here are some tips that you can utilize to help you be successful.

Are you giving your customers a good way to respond to you? Many email marketing businesses will set up fake email addresses that they will send from but never check. This tells the customer that when they reply to your email that there is not a real person at the other end and that you do not care about their business.

Sell your product. Tell the customer what you are selling. Do not leave your customer hanging and trying to guess what you are trying to provide for them. If they have to do the work to figure out what your point is, they probably will not. As a marketer, it is your job to do the work for them.

Is your message brief? Keep your message to the bare minimums. No one wants to read a long email full of fluff and unnecessary information. Get straight to the point and only highlight the major facts. If the customer is attracted to your offer, they will come to you for more information.

Spell check. Make sure that your email is grammatically correct and free of spelling errors. You will not get many sales if your messages look like it was typed by a child or a foreigner. In fact, many spam filters are programmed to block emails with excessive spelling errors.

Limit your usage of capital letters while email marketing. Using too many capital letters gives the impression that you are either shouting or you did not take the time to really write the message. It is alright to use some capital letters to emphasize a word or point, but nothing more. Additionally, some spam filters block messages with all capital letters.

Provide urgency. Let your customers know that they need to act now. Give them deadlines like being the first of a certain amount of customers to respond or an expiration date to ensure that they act immediately and not at their leisure. If you do not, they may put it on the back burner and forget about it completely.

Test your message. Send your message to yourself using various email accounts to make sure that the message is formatted properly and everything is in order. Make sure that all links work and pictures display properly. Also, remember that not all email services allow for HTML, so provide a copy of the message in text format as well.

Let customers unsubscribe. An unfortunate part of marketing is that not everyone wants your product. So do not keep bothering them with repetitive emails. Give them a way out with an unsubscribe link in the email.

Keeping some of these tips in mind will help ensure that your email marketing campaign is successful. Many internet network marketing companies fail, but a lot of them succeed as well. Knowing simple tricks like these can make your business one of the successful ones.

Local Directories Bring Your Business Customers

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

If you are looking for ways to market your business, don’t forget local directories. They have been around for years but they are still one of the main ways that customers will find you. You do not want to ignore such a simple but effective way to market yourself.

When people are looking for a service or product, they still have a habit of picking up a local directory. It’s just easier for most people, especially those that are not really comfortable on a computer, to pick up a book. And believe it or not, there still are many people who aren’t fans of using a computer.

Not only that, it can be a lot more convenient to grab the directory, especially if the computer isn’t already on. Directories are handy because you can flip through them, see all the businesses in your category in one place and more easily make a choice of who to call. The thing is, if someone goes to use a directory and you aren’t in there, you definitely won’t be getting that phone call.

When people first move into an area, they need to find new places for all their products and services. They often use directories to find them. If you miss out on this call, you may never get another chance at this new customer.

Many of the directories also have listings online. This way, you can be found easily in both places. If you have a website as well, there is no need for concern that you won’t be found on the Internet. Being in the directory just gives you more exposure and at a much more reasonable price than most advertising.

Local directories are still one of the first places people look when they need something. If your business isn’t in it, you could easily lose prospective customers. Considering the low cost of advertising in them, it doesn’t make sense not to.

Direct Mail Marketing – Helpful Tips

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Direct marketing by mail is intended to let people know about your company in a manner that is different from the usual methods, such as commercials on TV or radio.

This is done by marketing directly to consumers. When you market directly to a consumer, they are going to get the information first hand and not through a media platform. This is often done with flyers, signage, posters, letters, and street advertising.

Direct mail marketing can involve a number of different tactics. Placing fliers throughout a targeted neighborhood near your place of business is one method often used. Alternatively, you may choose to deposit promotional offers or coupons on cars parked near your facility.

Direct email marketing is yet another strategy available, and is one that has gained increased popularity of late. Spam emails have developed into a scourge, however, and many people go to great lengths to ensure that they do not receive unwanted messages.

If you want to incorporate email direct marketing as a strategy, you might want to have people register to get your information. Once you have a list of people who want to know more about your company and what you are selling, you can send out emails to them and not have to worry about getting rejected by their spam filters.

If someone signs up for your email list this shows an interest in what you do. You can offer specials or coupons to these customers for being loyal.

Customers will have an incentive to remain connected to your company if they understand that you regularly reward email subscribers with special offers and discounts.

A greater amount of effort and time is necessary to successfully conduct a direct mail marketing campaign than other sorts of initiatives. It takes more ingenuity and creativity to get an effective message to fall under the eyes of prospective clients.

Direct marketing can be a terrific way to get your business enterprise up and running. However, once your firm becomes busy with new and repeat customers, you may find that direct marketing becomes too labor intensive to continue.

Professional Search Engine Optimization Toronto: Is It Worth The Cost?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Search engine optimization (also known by the acronym SEO) is a collection of strategies designed to increase your Toronto-based or Toronto-themed website’s ranking in search engine results. This can make or break a website financial survival and success.

The hard truth is that the vast majority of internet users have no idea that your website even exists. Luckily, most people find websites the same way: through search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. Unfortunately, as any web surfer knows, most search engines return a list of hundreds of thousands of results, even for a detailed keyword search. If your website is listed as number 1,116 on the 120th page, most search engine users aren’t even going to see it. Therefore, getting search engines to rank your website near the top, specifically on the first or second page of results, is crucial to getting internet users to find and visit your website.

Search Engine Optimization in Toronto: Challenging Times

Understanding all aspects of SEO is like learning complicated mathematic figures for the first time. While some aspects are simple to pick up, others are quite technical and complicated.

Search engine optimization involves taking the automated search engine robot programs that regularly troll the internet looking for new websites to index and rank, and revising your website to make it more easily accessible to these robot programs. Doing this requires knowing how these automated robot programs work-and that requires fairly detailed computer knowledge.

Adjusting the content of your website can only go so far. Good search engine optimization requires tweaking the website coding, metadata, and even advanced web hosting details. If you designed your website using point-and-click web design software like Dreamweaver, you most likely don’t have the web design and coding skills needed to tweak your website for an optimum search engine ranking.

Even worse, no one, not even web development experts, are 100% sure what criteria search engines use to rank websites in their search results. Making your website’s content highly relevant to specific search terms is just the beginning.

The “Big Three” search engines (Google, Yahoo!, and Bing) offer advice on their websites as to what they consider to be valid and invalid search engine optimization strategies. These, however, are more general guidelines rather than hard and fast rules, and can often be frustratingly vague.

The Wrong Way to Do Search Engine Optimization Toronto

In many cases, people are tempted to follow quick but dirty methods designed to trick the search engines into ranking a site very high. The goal is to do something fast that will impact the ranking of a website in a positive way. Some of these tricks are extremely simple and could bring huge rises in ranking for a site. The site is essentially given a ranking way higher than it ever would have received without someone working in the trick. For instance, one simple trick is called “keywords stuffing” and simply requires someone to stuff in tons of keywords into the website, rather than just posting valid content. These tactics are bad SEO.

It is important that you not fall into the trap of invalid SEO strategies because it could be the kiss of death to your online business or advertising campaign. The major search engines are now highly intolerant of these scheming strategies because it takes away from the credibility and worthiness of their own websites. If they are falling for these tactics and assigning mediocre or scam websites high rankings, they are thus giving these low quality websites to their customers in the search results pages. Customers won’t appreciate that and will start using other search engines! That is why using these invalid techniques will have serious consequences today. You could find your ranking dropped extremely low or your website may be completely blocked out of a search engine’s ranking system!

Professional Search Engine Optimization Toronto

Perhaps the safest and most efficient option is to hire a professional search engine optimization Toronto company. Experts in the field will produce better results faster than even a knowledgeable, skilled amateur. Perhaps more importantly, a professional search engine optimization Toronto company (at least one that is reputable) will do search engine optimization the “right way,” avoiding any quick and easy shortcuts and underhanded tactics that might get your website penalized by the big search engines. Although hiring professionals may be expensive, it can pay for itself by the boost in internet traffic and sales to your online business.

Banner Advertising: News Of Its Demise Is Premature

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

You have seen them all over the internet — blinking, flashing, animated and garish. You vow that you will not contribute to this internet graffiti. You feel smug with your decision because after all banner advertising is dead.

Wrong. Banner advertising is not dead — and in fact it is still an effective internet marketing tool. However banner advertising has evolved — or rather I should say successful banner advertising has evolved. Some of the horrible eye-damaging banner ads still exist but successful, knowledgable internet entrepreneurs have long abandoned those marketing efforts and instead concentrated on targeted, tasteful, and trim banner ads.

Banner ads have a bad reputation in part because of the proliferation of banner farms that killed all the banner swap programs (or at least made them completely ineffectual). Also we all have memories of those hideous banners flashing across the top of so many web sites.

Banners have come along way since then and a cleverly designed banner can be a real asset to any advertising campaign. Also don’t forget that you don’t have to use one of those big giant banners that span the width of the screen. You can use smaller simple ads that can fit easily into the sidebar or special box on a web site so they can suit the design and work more effectively.

It is also important that you pay close attention to what sites you will choose for displaying your banner. IE. A site about web development for your web hosting service ad or a site about parenting for your ad promoting your potty training book.

Many text link and pay per click advertising vendors also offer the option of banner ads. Similarly many ezine and newsletter publishers sell space on their sites.

And savvy internet marketers are taking them up on these advertising opportunities.

WHY USE BANNER ADVERTISING?

Consumer research historically shows that most people see an ad several times before they take action. Banners allow you to display your ad over a period of time, increasing the chances that a prospect will see your ad and remember it.

Your banner ad can be targeted to specific audiences and displayed on internet pages and sites matched to that specific audience.

People seeing your advertisement can instantly click through to your web site store to to learn more or to make a purchase on the spot.

You can track your results and make adjustments to your campaigns based on response. Analyzing your results can help you finetune your banner, landing page, or target audience to improve your response and sales.

Banner advertising is really a buyers market, as there is always more banner spaces available than advertisers need or want, which means you can find many bargains available.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN PLANNING YOUR BANNER AD CAMPAIGN

There are several aspects to consider when planning out your banner advertising campaign.

The first consideration should be your ad graphic itself. These are usually animated GIF images but remember you want to attract customers — not simply attention — and remember the overall tone of your ad campaign when designing your graphic. Also keep in mind that many sites limit the file size of the graphic to somewhere between 12 and 16 KB.

Your banner can come in variety of sizes. The full banner size is 468 x 60 pixels. Some other standard banner sizes include:

Size(pixels).Type 468 x 60…..Full banner 234 x 60…..Half banner 392 x 72…..Full banner with vertical navigation bar 120 x 240….Vertical banner 125 x 125….Square button 120 x 90…..Button #1 120 x 60…..Button #2 88 x 31……Micro button

Your graphic will be hyperlinked to a target url of your choice so you may want to spend some time planning how you will track traffic and clicks. Some programs provide a tracking and statistics service for you but most individual sites can’t offer that information.

When selecting where to display your banner ad the first consideration should really be choosing a site offering information that appeals to your target audience. A high-traffic dating site isn’t going to be much good for advertising your maternity clothing line, for example.

Then you should look at traffic. When looking at site stats you want to make sure you focus on page views or page impressions rather than hits (which may count individually each graphic viewed). Depending on your banner and market you may be primarily concerned with unique page impressions.

Banner advertising is often sold by CPM (Cost Per Thousand displays, the Roman numeral “M” stands for one thousand). Many sites also offer a fixed rate price for a set period of time.

Many marketers do not concern themselves as much with click-through rates and instead see banner ads as “branding” tools. They create brand awareness and a brand image in the viewer’s mind. The hope is that when the viewer gets ready to make a purchase then your “brand” pops into their mind. Branding can also generate sales over the long-term. Branding is difficult to measure, but can be very powerful.

If you have a big advertising budget then you might want to consider an ad agency or media buyer. They can offer a lot of value for the dollar because they have the experience, knowledge, and contacts to make the most of your budget.

It is quite possible to be your own media buyer, if you are willing and able to handle the increased workload. The biggest difficulty is finding the right sites on which to advertise your product or service. Then after you find a site that might be a good match you need to negotiate the best possible deal. It is important you be as knowledgeable as possible as it is a buyer’s market and you don’t want to pay too much. Of course you also don’t want to alienate a web master whose site is a perfect match for you.

You also have the option to buy banner space on many search engines and directories. Often this option allows you to display your ad only to a targeted audience which can obviously increase your chances for a successful campaign but it can be a pricey option.

Banner ad networks are another targeted option that might be more affordable. Individual web site owners contract with a single company to serve their banner ads and handle ad sales for them. In turn, these networks divide their sites into categories and subcategories to allow advertisers to advertise on particular sites within the network that are the most highly targeted. They also offer very sophisticated tracking tools that give you lots of valuable information about who is visiting your site, and what actions they are taking.

Some networks offer pay-per-click advertising which only charges you when someone clicks on your banner and comes to your site. However, this approach is subject to fraud by unscrupulous site owners.

A pay-per-sale network, otherwise known as an affiliate program, only charges the advertiser when a purchase is actually made. The advertiser pays both the affiliate and the network but only when there is a sale. Of course the competition to attract quality affiliates is high so while this can be effective it shouldn’t be the only method of banner advertising you use.

And some final banner advertising tips:

* Keep your message brief, direct and simple. * Attract more attention using words such as “free” and “now”. * Put “click here” somewhere on the banner. * Create different versions of the banner. * Animate your banner but only if it improves it. * Keep the file size as small as possible.
